Attempts have been made to help the Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021. This project aims to persuade over 10 million tourists to come to the emirate within the next two years.

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has announced the organising of roadshows in three cities in China – Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu – this month.

The campaign will run from 16th to 20th September and is intended to stimulate the outbound Chinese travel market to Sharjah by urging them to make use of the “visa on arrival” policy aimed at Chinese tourists that has been enacted by the United Arab Emirates.

The number of tourists from China heading to Sharjah is only increasing as they go to explore the heritage and cultural identity of the emirate, making it one of SCTDA’s most important markets.

The roadshows will also be of great value to SCTDA’s efforts to bring more tourists from China to the emirate by generating increased awareness of its special packages, including the likes of its product offerings.

The roadshows taking place in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu will see SCTDA highlighting the ambitious development projects being developed by the emirate in conjunction with the private and public sectors to audiences in China.

In Q2 2019, the number of Chinese visitors reached 13,289, according to the chairman of SCTDA, H.E. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, who believes that the figures are a reflection of the growing interest from Chinese tourists in visiting Sharjah, and that the figure will only increase further by the end of the year.

Al Midfa adds that the roadshows being held by SCTDA in the three cities in China will only strengthen the channels of communication with the leaders of the hospitality, tourism and travel industries.

It will also promote the exchange of successful experiences, best practices and insights on current trends to provide active support to the future growth of the tourism industry.

Al Midfa went on to say that an integrated strategy to highlight the diverse tourist attractions, world-class facilities, tourism and family leisure activities in the emirate has been adopted by SCTDA.

This is to help promote Sharjah as a family holiday destination all year round, and that innovative solutions based upon the notion of sustainable tourism are also being offered in conjunction with their partners.

The endeavours will ensure that the growth of the commercial and tourism sectors as significant contributors to Sharjah’s cultural, economic, environmental and social growth will be sustainable, Al Midfa believes.

The campaigns being run by SCTDA in 2019 are focused on eco-tourism products, branded hotels and outdoor activities in order to firmly establish their reputation as the ideal destination for families all over the world.

Anyone who is intending to visit Sharjah or anywhere else in the UAE will need to take out travel insurance in order to guard against travel hazards such as theft, injury or illness.
