The first series production Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) from Ferrari, the SF90 Stradale, has been revealed in the United Arab Emirates at Casa Ferrari in advance of the Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix 2019.

The brand-new model is able to provide amazing performance figures in a production vehicle, including 1000 cv, which equates to around 986 horsepower, with 390 kilograms of downforce at 250 kilometres per hour, and a 1.57kg/cv weight-to-power ratio.

The name of the new car is a reference to the 90th anniversary of the founding of Scuderia Ferrari, which highlights the strength of the link that has always been present between the company’s track and race vehicles.

The SF90 Stradale is the ideal demonstration of the way that Ferrari is able to instantly transition the skills and knowledge that it has gained in competition to production vehicles, according to the company.

The SF90 Stradale comes with a 90-degree V8 turbo engine that is able to deliver as much as 780 cv, which is the highest power output that has ever been generated by any 8-cylinder vehicle in the history of Ferrari.

The remaining 220 cv is the result of three electric motors.

The one at the back of the vehicle, situated between the rear axle and the engine, is called the Motor Generator Unit, Kinetic (MGUK), because it is derived from the Formula One application.

The other two electric motors are on the front axle.

Despite the sophistication of the system, it is simple for the driver to take advantage of by just selecting one power unit mode from the four available.

The rest will then be taken care of by the control logic, which manages the power flow between the batteries, the electric motors and the V8 engine.

The SF90 Stradale is also the first vehicle from Ferrari anywhere in the world, not just in the UAE, to come equipped with 4WD.

This move means that the 800Nm of torque and incredible power that the hybrid powertrain is capable of unleashing can be exploited to the full.

This also ensures that the vehicle is capable of going from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in as little as just 2.5 seconds and takes just 6.7 seconds to go from 0 to 200kph.

The engineers at Ferrari have also provided the new vehicle with a full-electric front axle, which is referred to as the RAC-e.

This is actually an electronic cornering set-up regulator that offers propulsion during electric drive while also providing independent control of the torque given to the two wheels.

This provides an extension to the idea of Torque Vectoring.

The introduction of this new hybrid architecture posed something of a challenge for weight management, which has been dealt with by making the vehicle’s bodyshell and chassis completely new and built with multi-material tech such as carbon fibre.

The new Ferrari SF90 Stradale can now be bought in the UAE from Al Tayer Motors showrooms.

Prices begin at Dh1.9m.

Anyone intending to drive this or any other car in the UAE needs to take out car insurance to ensure their financial safety on the road.
